Protein is an essential part of any diet to keep your meal balanced and to keep both your heart and weight healthy. As much as many people are aware, a healthy and balanced diet is composed of three main macronutrients: fat, carbohydrates, and protein.

Protein is the body’s building block. The bones, muscles, skin, and blood are all made up of protein. Eating enough amount of protein is also helpful to those who wanted to lose weight. And lean protein, in particular, is the most beloved.

There are various foods that are rich sources of lean protein and these sources are low in saturated fats and low in calories.

Here are some rich sources of this kind of protein:

  • Chicken and Turkey minus the skin. White meat are the best options and is the leanest choice.
  • Ground beef has high quality protein. Three ounces of this has 22 grams of protein along with other nutrients such as iron, zinc and vitamin B12.
  • Beans and lentils contain nine grams for each half a cup and are also great sources of fiber.
  • Lowfat or Nonfat Dairy like milk, yogurt, cottage cheese and ricotta cheese have lean protein.
  • Tofu and other products of soy are considered as top sources of vegetarian protein. A half cup of tofu has eight to 10 grams of protein.
  • Pork loin and chop do have protein along with other essential nutrients such as thiamin, niacin, B6, and B12 as per a blog from Food Network.

Meanwhile, the other food sources of protein include beans, corn, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, beef, eggs, oats, tuna, seeds, peas, quinoa, Greek yogurt, almonds, milk, avocado, and whey protein powder.
