While most types are asymptomatic, these are the symptoms one may experience as it grows:

  • a lump in the neck
  • a feeling of tightness
  • changing in voice or increasing hoarseness
  • difficulty swallowing
  • swollen lymph nodes in the neck
  • pain in neck and throat

According to a post from National Cancer Institute, the major types are the following:

  1. Papillary
This is also called as the Papillary Carcinoma which is the most common type. They are slow-growing which can develop in one or both lobes of the thyroid gland. This is generally treatable.
  2. Follicular
This is also called Follicular Carcinoma and one of the most common type next to papillary but is more aggressive. This type is also more likely to spread to other organs like lungs or bones.
  3. Medullary
This type is more aggressive and can spread to lymph nodes and other organs.
  4. Anaplastic
The most undifferentiated type of thyroid cancer which makes it really aggressive. This is rare.

Another type is called Hürthle cell carcinoma. This is a very rare type and is most often diagnosed in older people and in women.
