Anything that can be served and prepared quickly is referred to as fast food. It may come from various places such as sit-down restaurants, counter service, take-out, drive-thru, and delivery. But what makes them very popular is that they are inexpensive, convenient, and taste good.

However, no matter how much convenience it may serve us or how much it can overwhelm our tongue with its delicious taste, one is also known about these fast foods – they are not healthy. They contain refined grains, saturated fat, cholesterol, added sugar, and are high in sodium.

Among the most popular and our favorite fast foods are burgers, french fries, fried chicken, pies, sundaes, floats, cheeseburgers, waffles, tacos, hotdog sandwiches, and many others. Also, most of them are fried in huge amounts of oils and often paired with soda which makes them very unhealthy.

Here are the effects on the body:

  • The fat, calories, and highly processed carbs you gain in one meal may lead to weight gain and obesity if you eat fast foods often.
  • They are packed with sodium which makes them dangerous for heart health. Excessive sodium can increase blood pressure and risk for heart failure, heart attack, and stroke.
  • The bagels, buns, pretzels, and others have high sugar content affecting blood sugar levels.
  • These foods can triggers digestion issues such as high sodium resulting in bloating.
  • They lack the essential vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients we need, thus, our mood is affected.
  • Fried foods are hard to digest which may cause diarrhea.
