Psychologist William H. Sheldon has introduced three major types. These types are applicable to both males and females and they are Ectomorph, Endomorph, and Mesomorph.

  1. Ectomorph (lean and slender with less body fat and muscle but it is challenging for them to gain weight)
  2. Endomorph (a body that stores more fats and quickly gains weight)
  3. Mesomorph (strong and athletic and neither overweight nor underweight)

But one’s body type does not tell how healthy you are. Doctors rely on some tools like your BMI or body mass index. This is the result of calculating your height and weight. A score of 25 or more suggests you’re overweight; 30 or more points to obesity.

Ectomorphs can handle more carbohydrates while endomorphs could not.

Ectomorphs can eat a 45-35-20 split of carbohydrates, protein, and fat – the macronutrients.

Here’s a sample one-day menu for this type:

  • Breakfast Oatmeal with fruit and nuts
  • Snack Protein shake
  • Lunch Salad with a variety of chopped veggies, topped with chicken and vinaigrette
  • Snack Apples and almonds
  • Dinner Grilled shrimp and broccoli over quinoa

Mesomorphs should divide their calories fairly.

Here’s a sample one-day menu for this type:

  • Breakfast Toast with scrambled eggs
  • Snack Protein bar and fruit
  • Lunch Salad with mixed chopped veggies, chickpeas, and your choice of dressing
  • Snack Veggies and hummus
  • Dinner Chicken breast, roasted veggies, sweet potato

Endomorphs should have a 20-40-40 split of calories between the said macronutrients.

  • Lunch Roasted turkey lettuce wraps
  • Snack Veggies and hummus
  • Dinner Chicken with zucchini noodles and quinoa
