Cholesterol has a role to play for the body such as building healthy cells but too much of this has bad effects. This can be inherited but this is also the result of your unhealthy lifestyle choices. Medication, healthy diet, and physical movement can help but there are natural ways to lower this.

According to Doc Willie Ong, here’s what you need to do in order to lower your cholesterol level:

  • Eat oatmeal and oat bran. A cup of oatmeal everyday can reduce 10% of your cholesterol and they are rich in beta-glucan which interferes in the absorption and production of cholesterol. Other contents it has are omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, potassium, vitamin Bs, and calcium.
  • Consume oily fishes, like sardines, salmon, tilapia and bangus because they are filled with protein and omega-3 fatty which is for proper blood flow in heart and brain.
  • Eat garlic as this is good for the heart and its content called allyl sulfides helps in lowering cholesterol levels.
  • Eat more foods with fiber to remove cholesterol from the body such as apples, legumes, and grains.
  • Boil or broil foods instead of frying.
  • Opt for low fat food such as replacing full cream milk with skim milk.
  • Take at 5 hours of exercise in a week and best option is brisk walking for an hour. This is effective to lower cholesterol level.

Poor diet, obesity, lack of exercise, smoking, age, and diabetes increases risk of having this condition which can only be determined if you go through a blood test.
