Carotid Artery In The Neck & Why You Shouldn’t Coil or Twist This Part

Doc Willie Ong shares some important details about the carotid artery found in the neck.

CAROTID ARTERY – Here are some reasons why a certain part in the neck where carotid artery is found should not be twisted or coiled.

What brings blood to the face, brain, and neck are the carotid arteries. They are located in the neck in the left and right side and each is branching into two divisions: the internal which supplies blood to the brain and the external which gives blood to face and neck.

They are made out of three layers of tissue the intima, media, and adventitia. There are certain habits and movement which affects the blood flow in that particular artery and as such is wearing a clothing that is tight in the neck area.

Wearing these type of clothing like a tight necktie or tight barong, it will compress the blood vessel causing poor supply of blood to the brain. And this condition can possibly lead to fainting or stroke.

Moreover, according to Doc Willie Ong, there is a part in the artery called Baroreceptors which makes the neck quite a sensitive part of the body. A mere touch in the neck that can move this particular portion causes reflex which will lower your heart rate resulting to collapse.

On the other hand, this is which is why touching this part of the neck is also considered as a first aid when a person’s heart rate is increased.

Some habits and things you must be careful or avoid doing so as not to affect your carotid arteries:

  • bending while shaving
  • neck massage
  • when having a haircut where you need to bend your neck
  • looking up which stretches the neck
  • being overweight
