Here are the things that affect your liver health and damage the organ.

LIVER HEALTH – These are the ways you must do to keep your liver healthy and the things you must not do in order not to hurt it.

The organ that regulates most chemical levels in the blood and excretes a product called bile is the liver. Also, the blood that leaves the stomach and intestines passes through this organ. Its main job is filtering out blood from the digestive tract before passing it to the rest of the body.

Such function is essential for other bodily functions which is why it is just important that we should take good care of this particular organ. In taking care, it would mean being aware of the things that can harm it so as to prevent damages.

Below are the things we do and take that is actually harmful to the liver:

  • Sugar is just as damaging as drinking alcohol. This is not only harmful to the teeth but also harmful to the liver. Limit sweet foods and drinks such as soda, pastries, and candy.
  • Not all “natural” herb supplements are safe. Some are damaging to the point that they can lead to hepatitis and liver failure.
  • Excess weight and fats are dangerous. It can build up around liver cells resulting in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Those who are at risk are those who are overweight or obese, middle-aged or have diabetes.

What can help for a healthy liver are the following:

  • Moderate amount of alcohol.
  • Regular exercise and healthy lifestyle.
  • Balanced and healthy diet.
  • Monitor body weight.
  • Avoid weight loss pills and fad diets as much as possible.
  • Be careful if you have diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol.
  • Quit smoking.
