Many tips have already been discussed as to how you can sleep peacefully and have that quality rest you deserve. But among those tips underestimated by many is reading.

Dr. David Lewis, a psychologist and study author of a 2009 study from researchers at the University of Sussex, reading is accordingly “merely a distraction”. Book is the active engagement of the imagination, one that “causes you to enter an altered state of consciousness”.

Here are some other benefits of reading before sleeping based on a blog from Sleep Advisor:

  • Six minutes of reading can reduce stress by up to 68%. It doesn’t matter what you are reading just as long as you keep your mind engaged to relax.
  • Give you a break from looking at the screen.
  • Makes you take new information that will make you smarter and improve your creativity.

Dozing off to sleep while in the middle of reading is just normal. It is a normal response of the body to get tired when doing an activity. And in reading, your eyes make this familiar pattern of moving from left to right to read the sentences. Not only that, but it also gets you focused on what you are reading, or else, you’ll lose track of the story.

Also, where you read matters. If you are reading in a place or location where you regularly rest like just your bed, you will likely fall asleep.
