And now, in order to protect this important internal organ, here are the things you need to do according to Doc Willie Ong:

  • Limit salt – Too much salt not only affects the blood pressure but also greatly affects the kidney and its processes. Fish sauce, soy sauce, plain salt, salted fish, instant noodles, chips, and among other are loaded with salt.
  • Limit high protein foods – Meats and steaks are high in protein and eating too much of it makes the kidneys work twice as much which can make it tired easily and some of the weaker cells to die.
  • Maintain healthy blood pressure – For healthy kidney, keep your blood pressure at 130/80 or lower.
  • Healthy blood sugar – A normal blood sugar is at below 120 mg/dl. High blood sugar causes diabetes and high blood pressure to which both medical condition has great effects to the kidney.
  • Water – For cleansing, drink 8 to 10 glasses of water everyday.
  • Vitamin C – Too much vitamin C (ascorbic acid) will likely make you develop kidney stones. Taking a dose of 500 mg or less is much safer.
  • Pain relievers and other drugs – Limit your intake of pain relievers like mefenamic acid, ibuprofen and the coxibs (like celecoxib) as too much intake of these can lead to kidney damage.
