Moreover, our skin plays a significant part in how we look. Healthy and clean skin will make us look and appear pleasant. And this is one of the reasons why we take care of it – we all want to look good and be presentable.

But in some cases, this sometimes occurs in the secluded parts of our body, chicken skin happens. Chicken skin or also known as keratosis pilaris is a harmless skin condition characterized by some white or reddish bumps making it look rough on the surface.

This is actually a common skin condition and as stated above, a harmless one. The bumps are caused by keratin, a type of protein that’s plugging the hair follicles. It often appears on the upper arms, thighs, cheeks, and buttocks.

Keratosis pilaris happening during the puberty stage will likely get improved as one gets older but it is also important to take note that this harmless skin condition is genetic. This is not something infectious or contagious.

There is no cure to this but there are some tips and applications that you may do in order to lessen the appearance of the bumps. Dermatologists may recommend some treatments to moisturize the skin in order to soothe the dry and itchy skin.

These moisturizing treatments should have urea and lactic acid. Both of these ingredients help in removing the dead skin cells and smoothen the dry surface of the skin.

Other treatments that a dermatologist may suggest to you are microdermabrasion, chemical peels, and retinol creams.
