Chicken Skin Armpit – What To Do To Lessen The Appearance?

Is there any treatment for chicken skin in the armpit? Find out here!

CHICKEN SKIN ARMPIT – Do you avoid wearing sleeveless tops in public due to the appearance of chicken skin in your underarms? See details below.

Some of us think twice about raising our arms. We feel embarrassed showing our underarms to other people as we get uncomfortable seeing their gazes as to how our armpits look like. We often face a dilemma such as dark underarms and sometimes, the obvious appearance of tiny bumps called chicken skin or keratosis pilaris.

There are several ways to whiten and smoothen your underarms on your own. And in treating a skin condition called chicken skin, here are some facts and truths about it:

  1. It is caused by waxing or plucking as these procedures are traumatic for the skin. This trauma then leads to inflammation causing the bumps.
  2. Laser hair removal can improve the appearance of the bumps.
  3. Some symptoms include itching and irritation, redness, and rough bumps which can sometimes be in colors red, white, pink, brown, or black.
  4. Having eczema or dry skin can make you more prone to this.

Based on a post from Female Network, this is what dermatologist Anna Palabyab-Rufino said about treating this skin condition:

  • Regular exfoliation will help prevent this. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells and residues but ” never scrub too vigorously because it may cause irritation and darkening”. These procedures block the tissues near the roots.
  • Avoid harsh and strong soaps. Using this kind of strong product will lead to dry skin and drying out of the skin will result in itching and inflammation.
  • Cautiously use toners and serums that have retinol and glycolic acid. These ingredients can soften the roughness of the underarms.
  • Laser treatments offer the best results

The bumps are not harmful and dangerous but inflammation can lead to infection and scarring. Make sure to maintain good hygiene
