According to a post from Harvard, a new study says “yes” and the results are found in the October 2022 issue of The American Journal of Gastroenterology. In this study, 84 people with chronic constipation were gathered, and during the study, they were made to drink 200 grams of 100% prune juice every day for eight weeks.

And in just after three weeks, they already experienced significant changes. Accordingly, those who drank the 100% juice had fewer hard and lumpy stools compared to those who consumed a similar-tasting placebo drink. and seven weeks after, they had regular bowel movements.

Accordingly, the juice’s sorbitol (sugar alcohol), dietary fiber (especially pectin), and polyphenols are all associated with treating this bothering constipation.

The complications of constipation can include hemorrhoids, anal fissures, fecal impaction, and rectal prolapse. There are several factors that increase the risk of this such as having old age, being a woman, having a poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, and taking medications like sedatives and narcotics
