Eating an egg may bring both good and bad affects. That is what Doc Willie Ong explained in a video posted on Facebook. Here are the lists of the advantages and disadvantages of eating eggs:

Eggs…

  • contain Vitamin D for the bones
  • contain Choline for the brain of children and adult
  • are a good source of energy and body builder nutrients
  • aid in weight loss
  • help in improving the cognitive health
  • contain lutein for the eyes
  • maintain a healthy hormonal function
  • are good for the liver

Eggs’ bad effects include…

  • the possibility of containing salmonella, a potent bacteria
  • its state of being easily spoiled
  • its state of being easily contaminated

According to Doc Willie, to avoid the salmonella, it is best to eat hard boiled eggs. The potent bacteria can be found in the egg yolk thus in sunny-side-up cooking, you must really make sure that the yolk is cooked.

With regards to the healthiness of the yolk and the egg white, based on the video, the former is the highest source of cholesterol. The body only needs 300 mg of cholesterol daily and one yolk contains 213 mg. On the other side, most vitamins are found in the yolk. such as the following:

  • Calories
  • Protein
  • Fat
  • Vitamin D
  • Riboflavin
  • Folate
  • Vitamin B

The key in eating eggs is to have it moderately. Make sure it is really cooked to avoid the salmonella bacteria and to enjoy its benefits.
