FORMS OF YOGA – Practicing yoga is beneficial for both mental health and physical health and these are its different forms.

We might think that practicing yoga is just all about physical poses but it is not just limited to this. It is actually a wide range of contemplative practices that include meditation, chanting, mantra, prayer, breath work, ritual, and other actions.

Yoga offers physical and mental health benefits for people of all ages.

According to the American Osteopathic Association, the techniques done in yoga can reduce the pain of lower back pain, arthritis, headaches, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Its other physical benefits are improved flexibility, improved muscle strength, improved respiration, energy, and vitality, weight reduction, improved balance, and many others.

And yoga has different forms and each of these forms focuses on different goals and tenets.

Here are some:

  • Hatha Yoga – a set of physical practices that aims for improved vitality and health
  • Karma Yoga – living a life striving to serve God and others.
  • Jnana Yoga – practicing meditation, self-reflection, and study for wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of the self and the nature of reality
  • Bhakti Yoga – cultivating a love for the Supreme, or God

However, despite the known benefits, a lot of people are still afraid to try this, and among the common fears they have is the fear of being judged due to reasons such as flexibility, body type, or outfit. Some also have this fear of the unknown and being out of their comfort zone.
