Some studies found out that drinking tea can actually help with cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, aid weight loss, lower cholesterol, bring mental alertness, and has antimicrobial qualities. However, too much of anything, including tea, is not good.

Here are the reasons why drinking too much tea is not advisable:

  • Reduces the iron absorption due to the tannins it has. It is not best to drink if you have a low potassium level but drinking between meals is your best option.
  • It increases anxiety, stress, and restlessness because of the caffeine it has. Try to reduce your consumption if you start to notice this and you may replace it with caffeine-free herbal teas.
  • The caffeine it has may also disrupt your sleep cycle resulting in poor sleep.
  • Drinking too much can result in nausea if consumed most especially on an empty stomach. The tannins may irritate the stomach which may likely result in this.
  • Too much amount can also cause pregnancy complications such as miscarriage and low infant birth weight due to high levels of caffeine as per an article from Health Line.
  • It may cause caffeine dependence and when you decide to withdraw, symptoms include fatigue, irritability, and headaches.
