BLOOD TYPES – These are the four main blood groups and this is what a certain type says about your health and its relation to medical conditions.

There are 4 main blood groups or blood types – the A, B, AB and O. The certain type for a person is determined through the genes he or she has inherited from the parents. Each group could RhD positive or RhD negative which basically means there are 8 blood groups in total.

According to the ABO system, the four main groups are defined:

  • – has A antigens on the red blood cells with anti-B antibodies in the plasma
  • B – has B antigens with anti-A antibodies in the plasma
  • O – has no antigens, but both anti-A and anti-B antibodies in the plasma
  • AB – has both A and B antigens, but no antibodies

  • blood group AB
    •  more at risk of stomach cancer
    • one study showed that more people with memory problems have this blood type
    • more at risk of pancreatic cancer
    • higher risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE)
    • higher chance for a stroke
