Getting and staying healthy remains a considerable challenge for most of us, especially with all these temptations around us – fast foods, fried foods, ice-cold sweets, fries, gadgets to make you slouch and lie all day, and many more. But really, it doesn’t have to be.

It’s not an instant thing as much as many are aware. You can’t have a healthy life overnight because the key is consistency, which starts with small and positive steps. A single step is a start with a change in your mindset – a chance to do better and live healthier.

Translating your goals such as “lose weight,” “get fit” or “eat better” into habits is a bit hard. And oftentimes, it fails quickly.

Basically, the first is to always think of why you are doing it and the reason must be yourself. You have to put yourself as the main reason for solid commitment and everything else will just follow.

Make sure that the changes you are doing make you happy. Making sure that you are happy doing it is the key to being consistent.

According to a post from Yiqing Song, Professor of Epidemiology, Department of Epidemiology, Fairbanks School of Public Health, here are some healthy practices and habits:

  1. Regularly checking of your body weight.
  2. Limiting yourself from eating unhealthy foods. Eat nutritious meals that have ” more protein and fiber and less fat, sugar, and calories” in them.
  3. Take multivitamin supplements to make sure you get enough nutrients. Micronutrients such as vitamins A, B6, B12, C, D, and E, as well as zinc, iron, copper, selenium, and magnesium, are all essential to the body.
  4. Drink plenty of water and reduce your intake of unsweetened drinks.
  5. Regular exercise.
  6. Avoid prolonged sitting or longer screen time compared to the time you’re being physically active.
  7. Get a good sleep and rest.
  8. Stay sober and limit alcoholic drinks.
  9. Stress can make you gain weight – try to avoid and manage it.
