Can Thermal Scanner Really Detect People Infected with COVID-19? WHO Answers
THERMAL SCANNER – Here is a guide on whether or not it is really effective in detecting people with COVID-19 or coronavirus.
Philippines, Italy, United States, Germany, Spain, and France are just among the many countries with confirmed cases of coronavirus. In fact, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the globe now has exceeded 1,000,000.
The said strain of coronavirus which was first recorded in China also caused nations to lock down their borders. Some countries like Italy, France, and the United States got days when they recorded hundreds of deaths due to COVID-19.
In the Philippines, quarantines are implemented in most parts of the country. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte placed the entire Luzon under an enhanced community quarantine to limit the movements of the people – one of the best ways to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Provinces in Visayas and Mindanao also implement quarantine. Under an ECQ, only one (1) household member is allowed to go out of the house at a time to buy groceries.
In most grocery stores and establishments that sell the basic necessities of the people, a shopper need to pass by a thermal scanner checking before an entry.
Once the body temperature of the person is not normal, he or she may be assisted on what to do like to rest for a while as it may be due to the heat of the sun only.
However, a thermal scanner checking does not fully guarantee protection. As stressed by the World Health Organization (WHO), it can only detect fever due to COVID-19 infection but cannot detect asymptomatic individuals.
According to WHO, it may take two (2) to ten (10) days since the infection that a person may develop fever from coronavirus. It is for the case of symptomatic individuals.
