Among the most important functions of the liver is regulating most of the chemical levels in the blood and excreting bile. This bile carries away waste and breaks down fats in the small intestine during digestion The blood leaving the stomach and intestines also passes through the liver.
The liver breaks down harmful substances and these are excreted into the bile or blood. These by-products from the bile then goes into the intestine and exits the body in the form of feces while the ones from the blood are being filtered out by the kidney and exits in urine form.
Its other functions are:

- produces cholesterol and special proteins that carry fats in the body
- converts ammonia to urea
- clears blood from drugs and other dangerous substances
