The clot is harmful and deadly in a way that it can block the flow of blood to important areas of the body. It will start to become dangerous if it forms in some areas and doesn’t dissolve on its own. Clots can form in the arms and legs, abdomen (stomach), heart, lungs, brain, and kidneys.

Clots are varied into two types: thrombosis (it just stays in place and stationary) and embolism (it moves to different areas in the body). The symptoms can vary depending on where it is located.

Here are the possible causes:

  • Prolonged sitting which could be due to long hours of travel.
  • Prolonged bed rest because of surgery or illnesses.
  • Pregnancy
  • Smoking
  • Obesity
  • Some cancer types
  • Serious injury
  • Major surgery
  • Age
  • It runs in the family.
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • health conditions due to chronic inflammation
  • Some infections

To prevent clotting, avoid those things that cause it such as smoking, being obese, and not being physically active. Talk to your doctor about this if you have a family history of this.

According to Cleveland Clinic’s article, in diagnosing blood clotting, the doctor may require to run through some tests such as blood tests, ultrasound, CT scans, Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA), and V/Q scans.
