Medication is a substance mostly done to cure a disease, treat a medical condition, relieve symptoms of an illness, and prevent the emergence of a disease. It is usually done orally or through the mouth in the form of pills, capsules, or liquids.
Other medications can be taken through the nose, placed in the cheek, under the tongue, eye drops, ear drops, through the skin, through injection to the fatty tissue, through a tube or enteral, inhaled, or other methods. Now, if you’re under a type of medication, what must you do?
Here are things you MUST REMEMBER:
- Eating grapefruit is not advisable because this can affect your medicine either by making it less effective or too strong.
- Do not drink milk because it can your body find it harder to process certain antibiotics due to its minerals such as calcium and magnesium.
- Stay away from licorice because it can weaken the effect of some drugs.
- Substances that can make you calm you down or make you sleep will have a weakened effect if consumed with chocolate, specifically dark chocolate.
- Do not drink alcohol. It can make the medicine less effective or useless at all. It is also possible that it can make some types stronger which is absolutely dangerous.
- Coffee weakens antipsychotic drugs.
- Avoid antihistamines when you take medication for high blood pressure as it makes it less effective and raises your heart rate.
- Avoid foods like broccoli, brussels sprouts, kale, parsley, and spinach, all of which rich in vitamin K, if you take a blood-thinning substance to prevent and treat blood clots. This can make the medication less effective and put you at higher risk of blood clots as per WebMD.
