FOODS WITH MELATONIN – What’s essential for good sleep is melatonin and here are some foods that are high in melatonin.
Melatonin is a hormone, a unique one, that can help us sleep better. This is produced by the pineal gland, a gland located in the middle of the brain. More melatonin is produced when the sun goes down and consuming melatonin through adding it to your diet may actually improve your sleep.
There are melatonin supplements that can help. However, while this is generally safe, you may never know the effects it can bring you when it interferes with your prescription medications and the side effects it may cause. Such side effects include headache, nausea, drowsiness, and dizziness.
And to avoid this, there are foods high in melatonin that you won’t actually need the supplements anymore to boost the melatonin in your body.
Here are some foods that contain melatonin:
- Milk
This is a common drink that can help improve your sleep. Apart from the dietary sources of melatonin, it also has amino acid tryptophan. But people who are lactose intolerant may skip this drink. - Tart Cherries
This type of cherries is more sour compared to the common sweet ones but aside from the high amounts of melatonin, this is also rich in anti-inflammatory compounds - Pistachios
Many types of nuts contain melatonin but the particular one that has a higher amount compared to others is pistachios. Apart from that, it is also a rich source of vitamin B6. - Fatty Fish
Aside from melatonin that helps promote better sleep, other contents that do the same vitamin B6, omega 3 fatty acid, magnesium, and vitamin D. - Oats
This contains “good” carbohydrate, melatonin, tryptophan, fiber, B vitamins, and lots of minerals.
