BROCCOLI AND BROCCOLINI – The difference between broccoli and broccolini that you should know and their benefits to our health.

The classic broccoli actually has a hybrid and it is called broccolini. This is a hybrid between broccoli and Chinese broccoli that was invented in 1993. At first, it was called “Asparation” due to its asparagus-flavor undertones but some, such a name was accordingly horrible to be given to a vegetable, thus, the term broccolini was coined and such a term has been used in the market since.

Broccolini appears as a long, leggy stem, small florets, and small leaves (if there are any). Accordingly, it is sweeter and more tender compared to its parents.

On the other hand, broccoli is a cruciferous vegetable such as the likes of cabbage, kale, cauliflower, and brussels sprouts. It is edible that comes in the colors of bright green or purple and has a flowering head.

    Broccoli looks stout and bulky almost like a cauliflower while the broccolini is the slimmer version of it. Broccolini looks thin and with smaller flower.

    Accordingly, broccoli has this bittersweet flavor while broccolini has milder and sweeter taste.
  • Cooking
