Does following the MIND diet can do something to reverse Alzheimer’s disease or prevent it?
ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE – The MIND diet is designed to prevent loss of brain function as a person gets older, will this also reverse Alzheimer’s Disease?
A neurodegenerative disease that’s progressing through time can cause memory loss and confusion and it affects many people, mostly, old people – is Alzheimer’s Disease. And there’s said to be a certain diet that can help prevent this – the MIND diet.
The MIND is the acronym for Mediterranean-DASH Diet Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay. This is the hybrid of the Mediterranean diet and the DASH diet, and certain research results showed that it can help reduce the risk of dementia or slow down the decline of brain health.
Here are the 10 groups of this kind of diet:
- green leafy vegetables (they lower inflammation and oxidative stress – both factors are associated with the said neurodegenerative disease)
- other vegetables
- nuts (like almonds, cashews, and pistachios are foods good as snacks along with berries)
- berries (like strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries)
- beans (they have protein and low in saturated fats which is ideal for your total health as well as your brain health. Other foods like this include poultry and fish)
- whole grains ( like quinoa, oatmeal, brown rice, whole-grain pasta, and bread)
- fish (like salmon, tuna, and trout)
- poultry (like chiken and turkey)
- olive oil (one of the healthiest cooking oils which is also best to drizzle on top of bread, salad, pasta, cooked greens, and many others can protect your brain health)
- wine (the key is in moderation to help improve rain health)
While doing this kind of diet, you must take away or limit red meat, butter and margarine, cheese, pastries and sweets, and fried or fast foods as per an article from WebMD.
