POLIO CAUSE – Dr. Willie Ong explained how polio is transmitted and as well as the common target of this disease.
Recently, polio has sparked alarm in different countries again. One of the nations that are worried about this disease is the Philippines. The Department of Health (DOH) has previously confirmed that the disease is re-emerging in the different areas in the country.
Many are curious what polio is. Some are afraid that they may not have undergone a vaccine against it. It is really best to consult to your parents if you were given the vaccine against this disease.
Recently, Dr. Willie Ong posted a very informative video on YouTube. It is where he revealed the polio cause, how it is transmitted, and the common target of the disease.
According to Doc Willie, polio epidemic or polio is caused by a virus which attacks the nervous system of the body, the spinal cord and the brain, leading to paralysis. It can lead to the shrinking of the legs, the thigh, the hands, and even the shoulders if the case is severe.
How is polio epidemic transmitted?
Dr. Willie Ong stated that the polio cause, the virus, can be transmitted by engaging with those who are carrying the virus. The common target of the disease are the kids. If the virus was transmitted to another person, it may or may not show symptoms.
A child who got the virus may experience some stomach problems for a while but can recover from it. However, there is a chance that 1% of the virus will stay in the stomach and then travel to the spinal cord and brain. Paralysis may be the next thing to happen.
Sadly, polio has no cure according to Doc Willie. The best that a person can do is secure a vaccination against it most especially for the children. For the babies, based on the post, here is the schedule of the vaccination against this viral disease:
- 2 Months Old
- 4 Months Old
- 6-18 Months Old
- 4-6 Years Old
