What to know about PCOS infertility and the treatment.
PCOS INFERTILITY – Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a health problem that may lead to infertility and here’s what you can do to manage this.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a condition that affects women who are in their child-bearing age. This condition may display several signs and symptoms such as irregular periods or no period at all, weight gain, difficulty getting pregnant, thinning hair or hair loss, oily skin or acne, and excessive hair growth.
Unfortunately, there is no cure for this condition but there are some ways that can help you manage the symptoms like lifestyle changes and healthier diet. Women with PCOS also suffer from a hormonal imbalance and metabolism problems. These symptoms may affect their overall health physically and mentally.
Infertility with having PCOS
This disorder is among the top cause of infertility and this is because there’s no ovulation due to overproduction of estrogen by the ovaries. Since ovulation is not regular, this may cause irregular period, reduced egg quality, insulin resistance, and increased risk of disorders such as gestational diabetes.
Fortunately, this is possible but the struggle is real before a woman with PCOS can get pregnant. They may likely suffer from a miscarriage, preeclampsia, larger baby, and premature delivery. Pregnancy with this condition may also pose risks on the baby such as premature birth and lower Apgar score.
The first step into treating PCOS is healthier diet and lifestyle. It is recommended to work out at least three times a week or 30 minutes everyday. This may also positively impact fertility and with the help of medication, pregnancy is surely possible. There are certain fertility medications but fertility tablets are not effective to ovulate. They should have fertility injections to release an egg.
Fertility injections have hormones that signals the ovary to produce eggs. They will usually produce two or more eggs and this procedure requires closer monitoring such as transvaginal ultrasounds and several blood tests.
This condition also exposes women with other serious health conditions like:
- insulin resistance
- type 2 diabetes
- high cholesterol
- high blood pressure
- heart disease
- stroke
- sleep apnea
- possibly an increased risk of endometrial cancer
