The racing and pounding of the heart producing palpitations can be felt in the neck, chest, or throat. This can happen anytime but palpitation is usually not serious or harmful only that it is associated with abnormal heart rhythm.

Mostly, lifestyle factors make great impacts. An unhealthy lifestyle will most likely cause palpitations but there are also other factors that may cause it. Moreover, despite the pounding chest and racing heartbeats, there are surely some measures that may help prevent this from happening.

- Negative and strong emotions like anxiety, stress, fear, and panic
- Exercising vigorously
- Pregnancy
- Caffeine

In other cases, try to limit the amount of alcohol you drink and caffeine you consume. Also, quit smoking as early as now and start doing your exercises regularly. It would also be best to control and manage your blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
