EXERCISES FOR HEART HEALTH – Being physically active positively impacts your overall physical and mental health and for the heart, these are the ones you need.
The main organ of a circulatory system is the heart and it serves several significant functions. It has different parts that work together to move and circulate blood throughout the body in a manner that is coordinated. The heart also controls the rhythm and speed of your heart rate and maintains your blood pressure.
The main function of the heart is to pump blood to all parts of your body and this blood pumped by the heart provides oxygen and nutrients that is needed to function. One of the best ways to maintain the good health of your heart is through exercising and there are some specific exercises that you can do.
Some examples of moderate exercises you can do are:
- brisk walking or unburdened hiking
- water aerobics
- recreational bicycling
- slow jogging
You may also do some vigorous ones that is quite challenging but will surely make a significant increase in your heart rate and breathing. Some of these exercises are the following:
- running or sprinting
- jumping rope
- tennis
- hockey
- basketball
- swimming laps
As for the amount of exercises you should do, the American Heart Association suggests:
- 150 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic activity a week
- 75 minutes of vigorous intensity aerobic activity a week
- a combination of both each week
What are the other ways to keep your heart healthy? Some of the other ways to keep the heart healthy include maintaining a healthy weight, eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, limiting sodium consumption, managing stress, and quitting vices.
