Zea mays or corn is among the most popular cereal grains in the world which are grown in many countries across the globe with numerous varieties. Tortilla chips, polenta, cornmeal, corn flour, corn syrup, and corn oil are all made out of corn.
But this is not the only reason why corn is well-loved by many people. Health junkies love this because it is a great source of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Typical corn we often see is in color yellow but other varieties of this also come in colors such as red, orange, purple, blue, white, and black.

- Protein: 3.4 grams
- Carbs: 21 grams
- Sugar: 4.5 grams

It is mainly composed of carbs and little sugar. Consuming sweet corn may provide you with a number of vitamins such as vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), vitamin B9 (folic acid), vitamin B6, vitamin B3 (niacin), and potassium, an essential nutrient.
It also consists of insoluble fiber which makes it a low-glycemic index food. Corn also contains several minerals such as zinc, magnesium, copper, iron, and manganese.
Is it safe to eat corn every day?
According to a post from WebMD, a 2000-calorie diet has an “average daily recommendation of 2 ½ cups of vegetables” which includes corn. A cup of corn every day will give you 10% of the daily recommended amount of fiber.
But since it is packed with carbohydrates and starch, it is suggested to consume it in moderation. Excessive amounts may have adverse effects, especially on people with diabetes as it may spike their blood sugar levels.
