FRENCH FRIES – A snack that fits any occasion is french fries and here are some tips to make this many people’s favorite snack healthier.
A great example of fatty food that is not good for our health is french fries. It contains a bad type of fat that is linked to many serious health problems. Eating this type of food frequently can affect the immune system.
Among its bad effects include:
- increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases
- increase the risk of stroke
- high trans fat in food is linked to diseases like heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and obesity
- contains a lot of calories and frequent consumption may lead to weight gain
- it can increase the risk of high blood pressure
But we can’t easily say no to this little piece of heaven that can come in any flavors we want, right?
Fortunately, we don’t need to be conscious everytime we eat this snack because there are some ways to actually make this healthier.
According to a post from NDTV Food, here are some tips to make our all-time favorite fries healthier to eat:
- Bake it.
Frying is one major part that makes our fries unhealthy. The type of oil also matters. Frying and the type of oil used can contribute to extra fats and calories. The better way of cooking this is baking using a healthy type of oil. - Grill them.
Grilling fries is also one way to consume this snack guilt-free. - Use sweet potato instead of the usual white potato.
Sweet potatoes have complex sugar that doesn’t turn into sugar directly. Zucchini is also a healthy alternative that you must consider. - Avoid salt.
Salt makes our fries alive but you may skip this for health reasons. For some kick, you may use fresh garlic, cumin, chili powder, paprika, thyme, or rosemary instead of salt.
