What are the body odor causes and what can you do to get rid of this?
There are several body odor causes and at times, it is linked to some diseases, and here are some details you probably don’t know yet.
Our bodies have their natural smell and this is normal. However, what is not normal is the unpleasant smell the body releases called body odor. But the good thing about this is that there are a lot of ways to manage, prevent, and treat body odor.
Among the available simple treatment for body odor that you can do include using antiperspirants or ready-made or powder-formed tawas, taking a bath every day, wearing cotton and loose shirts, and avoiding foods that have strong smells like onion, garlic, spices, tinapa, and tuyo.
However, to effectively treat the unpleasant smell, you should determine first what caused it. This condition can be caused by a lot of factors and sometimes, due to an underlying condition.
A whiff of a foul-smelling odor can come after an intense workout or an afternoon outside under the heat. Sweat alone is actually odorless but due to some factors, it produces an unpleasant smell, and sometimes, some of us give off a more pungent scent
These factors can worsen the condition:
- intense exercises that burn a lot of calories
- being overweight
- hormonal changes
- consuming oily and strong-smelling foods
- hot weather
- some medications like antidepressants
These the serious health problems linked to this:
- Diabetes
- Gout
- Menopause
- Overactive thyroid
- Liver disease
- Kidney disease
- Infectious diseases
A body odor oftentimes occurs in the feet, groin, armpits, genitals, belly button, anus, and behind the ears. Where does the bad smell come from? It is produced by the bacteria on the skin when it mixes with sweat. Bacteria multiply and the bacteria breaking down on the surface of the skin causes the stench.
Make sure to practice proper hygiene as body odor, just like halitosis or bad breath, is more of a nuisance to others than a serious health issue.
