DENGUE SYMPTOMS – Dengue is a mosquito-borne illness that may come with several symptoms and here are some of these symptoms that you should know.
A bite from an infected mosquito can cause viral infection in a human and this condition is called dengue. The virus responsible is called dengue virus (DENV) and it has four serotypes that make it possible for one to be infected four times because you can only get immunity to only one type of virus. It isn’t spread from person to person but spread from infected mosquitoes.
According to the data, severe condition of this is the leading cause of serious illness and death in some Asian and Latin American countries. It can be found in countries such as Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, the Indian subcontinent, South and Central America, Africa, the Pacific Islands, and Australia.
Infected people can suffer from no signs or symptoms of an infection but some do.
According to NHS, here are some signs and symptoms:
- a high temperature, or feeling hot or shivery
- a severe headache
- pain behind the eyes
- muscle and joint pain
- feeling or being sick
- a widespread red rash
- tummy pain and loss of appetite
As of now, there’s still no specific treatment for this condition but some ways and tips can help ease the symptoms. Some of these that can manage these signs include taking paracetamol to relieve pain and fever; drinking lots of water for hydration and; taking a lot of rest.
Treatment of severe dengue, on the other hand, should be taken care of by a professional healthcare provider. It requires immediate medical care at a hospital as it is considered a medical emergency.
