What is chiropractic and what should we know before doing this?
CHIROPRACTIC – The third-largest primary healthcare profession is chiropractic and here are some details about this that you might want to know.
American Chiropractic Association defined chiropractic as “a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health”. It commonly treats “common musculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches.”
Basically, the licensed chiropractor will use pressure for the realignment of your spine and to reduce your pain and discomfort.
This treatment or practice should be performed by a trained and licensed specialist. They use different techniques to treat problems with the muscles and joints such as adjustments, soft tissue therapy, exercises, stretches, Kinesio taping, and among others.
However, this is not suggested for people who suffer from these conditions:
- Severe osteoporosis
- Numbness, tingling, or loss of strength in an arm or leg
- Cancer in your spine
- An increased risk of stroke
- A known bone abnormality in the upper neck
According to a post from ACA, patients can expect a series of questions asked on their first visit. This will be about their present condition and health history. Your specialist may come up with a diagnosis after history, exam, and diagnostic studies.
The results will determine whether you need the services or whether there’s a need to be co-managed by another healthcare professional.
Here are some benefits of chiro:
- minimized migraines and neck-related headaches
- improved posture
- reduced pain
- improved range of motion
- reduced symptoms of osteoarthritis
Remember, only a licensed, professional chiropractor should treat you.
