APPENDICITIS MYTH – Here are some facts – the hits and myths – about the condition called appendicitis you probably don’t know yet.
Many of us have surely grown up believing that doing strenuous activities right after eating will likely result to appendicitis. Thus, we make sure that after eating, we rest and relax in order to prevent to have this kind of condition.
Knowing the basics first, we all have appendix and it is found at the junction of the large intestine and the small intestine that looks like a small and closed tube as small as a finger. And appendicitis is the inflammation of the appendix which require immediate operation to remove it. If left untreated, it can burst and spill toxic and infectious materials to the abdominal cavity which is fatal.
Now, doing activities or exercising after eating is not true to be causing appendicitis. This condition makes the appendix become swollen, inflamed, and filled with pus. It is caused by a stool, foreign body, or cancer that creates blockage which can result to infection, thus, the swelling. The pain accordingly starts at the navel to the lower right abdomen and tenderness in the lower lower right abdomen.

- loss of appetite
- nausea or vomiting soon after the abdominal pain starts
- abdominal swelling
- fever
- inability to pass gas
- painful urination
- pain in the upper or lower abdomen, back, or rectum
- severe cramps
- constipation
According to Medicine Net, appendectomy is the standard treatment for appendicitis. This is the term used to call the surgery that removes the appendix. One way to at least prevent this from happening is eating high-fiber foods like fruits and vegetables.
