Among the common health conditions of many people in the Philippines are high blood pressure or hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease. Undeniably, these are due to the unhealthy lifestyle that most of us are living.
It is really a huge challenge to avoid the delicious but unhealthy food in front of us. The challenge is three times during the holiday season where gatherings are everywhere.
However, no matter how tasty they seem to be, if they are not good for our health, it is best to avoid them. There are a lot of healthy and still delicious treats out there.
Based on the video posted on the Facebook page of Dr. Willie Ong, there are really food that people with high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease must avoid. Here is a list of them:
1. Soft drinks – One cup of soft drinks contains 7 spoons of sugar. It also contains phosphorous that takes away calcium from our body and may lead to osteoporosis. If possible, avoid soft drinks and take water instead.
2. French fries – French fries contains lots of bad cholesterol. This is one of the foods experts believe to be the reason why many have heart disease and high in cholesterol.
3. Sauces like gravy, mayonnaise, and butter – These contain lots of calories. You can substitute it with vinegar, calamansi, or hot sauce.
4. Alcohol – Beverages with this are bad for our health. It will damage our kidney, liver, brain, and it can also cause cancer.
5. Junk Foods – Junk foods can be addictive because of salt and monosodium glutamate. Teach your child to avoid junk foods.
6. Raw Meat – Raw meat may contain bacteria and worms especially when there is still blood on it. Remember, vinegar and calamansi cannot kill bacteria and worms so it is best to cook it well.
7. Street Foods – Some examples of street foods includes kwek-kwek and taho. It is difficult to tell how clean street foods are especially the process involved in making them so it is best to buy them from those people you know.
8. Internal Organs – Many Filipinos love eating internal organs of pork and chicken. Some of these internal organs include brain, liver, and intestines. These organs contains a lot of uric acids and bad cholesterol. Some experts believe it can also cause cancer.
9. Chicharon and chicharong bulaklak – They are full of bad cholesterol even if you deep it in vinegar, just take popcorn instead.
10. Lechon or Roasted Pork – This is the most iconic food Filipinos love along with crispy pata and patatim. Based on the post, pork fat can cause blockage of veins in the heart and brain and can cause stroke or heart attack.
