DRINKS – Doctors Willie and Liza Ong explained the calories in certain beverages that can make a person fat and gave tips on how to lower the calorie level.
Nowadays, a lot of people are into certain cold beverages. It has become a trend not only to the young individuals but even to those who are in their middle and old ages. In the Philippines, these beverages have become the turn-to of many people when there is an intense warm weather.
Some of these beverages include the the milk tea, soft drinks, and certain types of coffee. Are you also one of those who are fond of drinking any of these beverages?
However, these drinks may contain a high level of calories. We all know that calories turns to the energy used by the body but too much of it can result to excess fat. Meanwhile, there are ways on how to reduce the calorie level of your beverage according to Doc Willie and Liza Ong.
In a video, the doctors discussed the calorie level of certain beverages. They shared tips on how you can have them at a lower calorie level.
Milk Tea
A cup of milk tea may contain 300 or more calories. It contains 1/3 cup of pearls which is equivalent of the calories you can get from a small plate of rice. It is not a good idea to have as a drink along with a meal.
Plain Tea
Two(2) teaspoon of sugar added to a plain tea is equivalent to 32 calories. You may only settle to one(1) teaspoon if you want to have 16 calories in your plain tea.
Softdrinks
In the case of softdrinks, it will depend on the size of the beverage. Usually, the calorie level of every bottle is between 150 to 250.
Hot Chocolate
This drink is a favorite of a lot of people. According to the doctors, a cup of it contains 165 calories.
In the case of coffee and other morning drinks, the doctors cited the add-on to them which affect their calorie level. Cappuccino contains espresso with foamed skim milk while latte got espresso with skim milk.
The American coffee has both espresso and whip cream while macchiato has espresso and foamed milk. The espresso is great source of caffeine.
Tips on How To Reduce the Calories in Your Drinks by Doc Willie and Liza Ong
- Add fat milk to your drink instead of having whip cream.
- Consider the following beverages during a hot day:
- Cold Water
- Calamansi Water
- Lemon Water
- Cucumber Water
- Coconut Drink
- Avocado Drink
- Watermelon Drink
- Mango Juice
- Sugar Cane Juice
- Train your child to drink healthy beverages.
In the video, the doctors cited that two(2) cans of softdrinks can lead to diabetes, arthritis, and heart problems. One(1) glass of it daily can make you six(6) kilograms heavier every year.
