What you eat, whether you exercise or not, how stressed you are – your daily habits in general, affects your mental health just as how it affects your physical health. If exercising and eating healthy can give you a healthy body, it can also give you a healthy mind.
As per research, people who regularly exercise tend to have sharper memories when they reach their 70s, 80s, and beyond. And these exercises should be moderate to vigorous and regular.
Now, here are some more other ways to improve your memory:
- The truth: enough sleep. You have been hearing this a lot of times probably from numerous experts and it should be at least 8 hours of sleep a night.
- Keep yourself and your brain hydrated by drinking a lot of water. Health authorities advise that the healthy amount is eight glasses of water per day.
- Salt but just a little. A high amount of this can cause some health conditions like Alzheimer’s disease but a little won’t be that bad. It acts as a stimulant for the brain to create new memories.
- One of the enemies of memory is stress. You might not be able to totally eliminate this but there are ways for to manage it.
- Too much sugar is not good for the hippocampus part of your brain. This particular part is playing a role for your learning, memory, and your long term memory. And a damage hippocampus is associated to developing Alzheimer’s or depression.
- Excessive alcohol is damaging both for the brain and the body but a moderate amount isn’t. There are studies which showed that a glass of wine everyday is not bad and is actually beneficial for memory.
