What to do if someone has chicken pox?

CHICKEN POX – Doc Willie Ong discusses important details and treatment about the condition called “bulutong-tubig” or chicken pox.

The virus causing the contagious chicken pox is the varicella-zoster virus which mainly affects kids and sometimes, adults can possibly get it too. Accordingly, the corresponding symptoms of this condition appears 10 to 21 days after you have been in contact with someone who has the virus. What make this severe is that the blisters can spread to nose, mouth, eyes, and even genitals.

Here are the symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Coughing
  • Itchy red rash
  • Abdominal pain
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Loss Of Appetite
  • Sensitivity to light

To ease itchiness, fever, and discomfort:

  • Pat blisters using one liter of water mixed with one teaspoon of salt.
  • It is important to note that the most contagious is the water inside the blisters, thus, avoid scratching.
  • Put calamine lotion but avoid applying areas such as face, near the eyes, and genitals.
  • Drink anti-allergy for rashes and paracetamol for fever.

When should you see a doctor for this condition? As soon as you think that your child has it to undergo proper examination of rashes, right medications, treat complications, and lessen the severity. Also, the patient must inform that doctor if it spreads to one or both eyes, it gets warm, red, or tender, and comes with dizziness, disorientation, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, tremors, loss of muscle coordination, worsening cough, vomiting, stiff neck or a fever higher than 102 F (38.9 C).

How does one gets chicken pox? This is spread through direct contact from someone with virus and when you inhale the air droplets of their coughs or sneezes.
