Here are the effects of high heels shoes according to Doc Willie Ong.
HIGH HEELS SHOES – Public health expert Doc Willie Ong shares some information about the effects of wearing high-heeled shoes to the body.
Women wearing high heels speaks elegance and a sophisticated character. But behind the pointy pair of an inch or more high-heeled shoes and sophistication are the risks to our health. Some women wear this kind of footwear occassionally but then, many are also wearing such on a daily basis.
Now, here are the effects of wearing high heels according to Doc Willie Ong:
- affects posture by pushing the center of mass in the body forward which takes the hips and spine out of alignment
The flexing and forwarding of the hips and and spine is in order to maintain balance. As the muscles in the calf, hip, and back are tensed and extra pressure was also put on the knees, this leads to excess muscle fatigue and strain. This also causes cramp and bulge.
- the higher the heels, the higher the pressure of the body also puts on the forefoot
The height of the heels indicates the pressure put on forefoot or the ball of the foot. As the weight of the body shifts forward, the higher the heels also give higher chances of lower back, hip, and knee issues.
Aside from its effects on back and posture, constant wearing high heels shoes also results to anatomical changes and foraminal stenosis. The Spine Health Institution, meanwhile, suggested the following tips:
- Don’t wear high heels for long time.
- Stretch leg muscles before and after wearing it.
- Limit to 2-inches heels or less. Wearing of flat shoes instead is highly suggested.
- The feet are at their largest size during the afternoon. Therefore, buy a pair on the afternoon.
- Avoid shoes with pointed toe.
- Choose shoes with leader insoles to prevent slipping.
- Buy various types of shoes.
