Brushing Tips – When Not To Brush Your Teeth?

Here are some brushing tips you must know.

BRUSHING TIPS – According to experts, there are times when you must avoid brushing your teeth as it could be damaging.

It is recommended to brush our teeth twice daily for at least two minutes each time. This recommendation is from the American Dental Association. However, there are also instances when a person should brush his teeth.

As much as we all know, brushing takes food and plaque away from your teeth. Plaque is the buildup of white film that forms on the teeth and this contains bacteria. Along with brushing, to maintain a good oral health, you must also do the following:

  • floss once daily
  • drinking plenty of water
  • eating a healthy diet
  • limiting sugary foods and drinks
  • using mouthwash after brushing and flossing
  • changing toothbrush every three to four months
  • not smoking
  • regularly seeing your dentist for cleaning and checkup

To avoid damaging your teeth, these are the times when you must not drink this:

  1. Do not brush immediately after eating as what happens when you do this is brushing the acid from the food onto your teeth which will result in wearing out your tooth’s enamel. It is also not recommended to brush your teeth after eating sweets and acidic foods and drinks like lime, lemon, carbonated drinks, and others.
  2. Do not brush your teeth after vomiting. If you do this, it would be just like brushing stomach acid to your teeth which can have adverse effects.
  3. Do not brush your teeth in the shower. Your shower head can have a lot of microbes on it which can possibly enter your mouth and there will be times when you’re rushing and your time to brush your teeth will be shortened.

In practicing oral hygiene, it is also an important part to know when not to brush your teeth.
