Dr. Willie Ong Discusses the Common Causes & Remedies for Low Potassium or Hypokalemia
LOW POTASSIUM – Dr. Willie Ong pointed out the common causes and remedies of hypokalemia which is common among many people.
One of the health conditions that have caught a lot of people by surprise is insufficient potassium or hypokalemia. Some people did not know that their potassium level has dropped until they can’t walk anymore or they suddenly tripped and cannot stand.
Some do not find it alarming most especially those who frequently experiences it. They are used to turning to eating bananas right away. Although eating a banana can help a lot, hypokalemia should not be solely treated with it.
It is best to go for a check-up or consider taking medicines that increases the level of potassium in the body. In a video posted on YouTube, Dr. Willie Ong and his wife, Dr. Liza Ong, revealed the common causes and remedies for hypokalemia.

Based on the video, the normal potassium level of a person is between 3.6 to 5.5. It is not advised to depend solely on fruits in increasing your potassium level but do eat a lot of fruits.
- Take a potassium tablet
- Consult a doctor
- Eat a lot of meat since it is a powerhouse of potassium
- Drink cocoa and chocolate
- Eat fruits and vegetables that are high in potassium
- Fruits – guava, citrus, melon, banana, lansones
- Vegetables – cauliflower, squash, sweet potato
- Consider viands that are high in potassium such as crabs, tokwa, beans, legumes
