Guide on COVID-19 Vaccine for People Previously Infected by Virus
COVID-19 VACCINE – Were you infected by COVID-19 and you are wondering if there is still a need for you to be vaccinated?
Many countries are still in a tough battle now against the COVID-19 pandemic. One of these is the Philippines which has an ongoing pursuit for population protection.
The whole PH remains under community quarantine measures with Metro Manila being under localized lockdowns. Previously, even amid strict community quarantine measures, people who have vaccine appointments are allowed to go out.
Different brands of coronavirus vaccines arrived in the country. Some of these include Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Janssen, Sinovac, and Sputnik V.
To achieve population protection against the COVID-19 vaccine, at least 70 million people must be vaccinated against the virus.
Unfortunately, there are different mutated versions of the virus now and cases of some of the new variants were detected in the Philippines. The Delta variant, a variant of concern for its higher transmissibility rate, is the reason why Metro Manila was previously placed again under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) for two weeks to prevent its spread.
However, there are cases when a person has been infected with COVID-19 before getting the chance to be vaccinated. Should a person who survived the disease still get COVID-19 vaccine?
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), people who were infected with coronavirus before must still get a COVID-19 vaccine. The international health body explained that the protection that can be taken from having COVID-19 varies from person to person.
On the other side, the protection from the vaccine is “consistently very strong”. Thus, for people who had COVID-19 and got themselves vaccinated, you “are more likely to be protected longer”. Seek first a doctor’s advice as there must be a proper gap between the infection and the vaccination.
