DRINKING TOO MUCH TEA – Herbal teas are undeniably healthy for the body. However, taking too much of it may bring negative effects, too.
When it comes to healthy drinks, herbal teas are among those that are topping the list. There are different kinds of teas you can choose from and among the most popular are green tea, ginger tea, and oolong tea.
Many individuals also prefer the lemon balm tea, the chamomile tea, the peppermint tea, and the hibiscus tea. All these have excellent health benefits for the body.
A lot of people most especially those who are conscious about their health have made drinking herbal teas a part of their routine. Some does it more than twice (2) a day.
However, drinking too much tea is also not healthy for the body. The negative effects may outweigh the benefits thus it is important to stick to moderate amounts which we will talk about later.
Before jumping on the recommended number of cups of tea daily, here is a list of the reasons why drinking too much tea is not healthy for the body:
- Decreases the absorption of iron. Based on an article on Healthline, teas are powerhouses of tannin, a compound that can reduce the absorption of iron in the body.
- Increased stress, anxiety, and restlessness. Due to the presence of caffeine in herbal teas, consuming too much of it may boost your stress, anxiety, and restlessness instead of relieving it.
- Poor sleep cycle. Another effect of caffeine is disrupting the sleep thus having too much tea may lead to struggles in sleeping.
- Nausea. Drinking too much tea most especially for those who are not used to it may result to nausea or the feeling that you want to vomit. It has a bitter taste due to tannins.
- Heartburn. Based on the article, also one of the effects is the triggering of the heartburn. It is because of the presence of caffeine in herbal teas.
- Headache. Caffeine can help relieve headache but too much of it may do the opposite.
To avoid the aforementioned effects, it is advised that a person will not go beyond four (4) cups of tea in a day. Enjoy its health benefits and stay away from the negative effects of overconsumption.
