What usually comes before a proper workout is stretching your body. Doing some stretches can reduce the chance of injury, is good for your joints, and helps decrease stress levels. However, does doing this helps burn calories, tone the body, or even reduce weight?
Stretching is always a part of a well-rounded fitness routine. This helps reduce the tightness you are feeling, improves your flexibility, and making workouts much safer and efficient to do. You don’t have to stretch every muscle you have but stressed the parts of your lower extremities such as the calves, hamstrings, pelvis, and quadriceps. It is also good to stretch your shoulders, neck, and lower back.

However, the number of calories burned may increase if you incorporate some stretches with moderate and higher intensity activities like power yoga.
According to an article from Healthline, power yoga can burn as much as 36–71 calories in 10 minutes depending on your weight and the intensity of the movements.
It can also bring minimal help to your weight loss goal but it cannot achieve as much as how jogging, biking, or high-intensity interval training (HIIT) does. Stretching has several types such as dynamic, static, ballistic, PNF, passive, and active.
It is also best to do some stretches for 5 to 10 minutes before your activity and another 5 to 10 minutes after.
