HIV/AIDS, H1N1 Swine Flu, Great Plague of London, Cholera Pandemic, Spanish Flu, and SARS are just some of the worst pandemics that happened in the world and changed history. All of these infectious diseases have claimed lots of lives.
And currently, the world is once again facing a major health crisis, the COVID-19, which was first recorded in China and now spread all around the world infecting and killing of millions. At one point, it has been compared to Black Plague as this is considered as the deadliest pandemic in human history has ever recorded.
In terms of transmission, the plague is a bacterial from domestic and wild animals while the COVID-19 is a viral disease which is transmitted from person to person.
Here are the symptoms of these two pandemics:
Once one person gets exposed to plague, he or she might experience fever, headache, and the development of tender swollen lymph nodes near the bitten area. As for the current health crisis, if a person contracted the disease, he or she will experience shortness of breath, dry cough, loss of taste and/or smell, conjunctivitis, skin rashes, and digestive issues like diarrhea.
How are they treated?
COVID-19 patients can experience mild to severe symptoms and there is no cure yet available for this viral disease. And as per the Black Death, it is treated with antibiotics and this is pretty easy to treat nowadays. Health authorities recommend immediate hospitalization once one gets diagnosed with the bacterial disease and antibiotic treatment must be done right away.
According to an article from Health.com, it can accordingly be told that these two pandemics are far different diseases. They have overlapping symptoms like fever and headache and one common thing they have is that they can be both transmitted from person to another through respiratory droplets.
