HEALTH TIPS – Nightmares are disturbing and here are the possible reasons and causes behind why it happens to a person.
Upsetting and disturbing dreams are called nightmares and to some people, it is recurring or it occurs frequently which tend to happen more in adults compared to children. And most often than not, these nightmares mixes up our emotions causing anger, sadness, guilt, and anxiety.
Having these feelings and emotions can make it hard to get back to sleep again interrupting the rest that you must have. By finding out the causes behind it, you might be able to do something about it and eventually reduce the chances of having this.

- Stress or anxiety over problems in life, major changes, or the death of a loved one can trigger nightmares.
- Traumas such as after an accident, injury, physical or sexual abuse, or other traumatic events can cause this. Commonly, people who have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) often suffer from nightmares.
- Sleep deprivation and insomnia also contribute to having nightmares. This is because these changes in your sleeping pattern can either interrupt or reduce the amount of rest you get.
- Medications like antidepressants, blood pressure medications, and other drugs used to treat specific conditions cause nightmares.

Among the health effects of having nightmares is psychological ill effects and sleep deprivation as discussed above can increase the risk of having serious medical problems like heart disease, depression, and obesity.
Recurring bad dreams can affect your mood, decrease your productivity at work or school, affect your daily tasks, and to some people, they resist themselves from sleeping because they fear having the same nightmare again.
