Its three overall processes are:
- ventilation (air movement in and out of lungs)
- diffusion (oxygen-carbon dioxide exchange)
- perfusion (pumping of blood)
The lungs take about 5 to 8 liters of air in a minute and these tiny air sacs send 0.3 liters of oxygen to the blood when at rest. And what can damage this part of the body are certain diseases, normal aging, smoking, and air pollution.
Among the disease include according to an article from Healthline:
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis
- Lung cancer
There are several ways to take good care of your lungs. For one, you must stop smoking as this is one of the main causes of cancer and cancer can start in these tiny air sacs. Also, second-hand smoking is just as dangerous as first-hand smoking. Avoid the smokes of tobacco, burning leaves, and smokes in cars.
Also, do some shoulders, neck, and chest exercises to improve air circulation and eat healthy and clean foods. Eat anti-inflammatory foods like green tea, orange fruits and vegetables, fish, beans, peanuts, water, apples, tomato, and olive oil. These foods hs antioxidants and other essential nutrients that the lungs need to be healthy and improve its function.
