Wrinkles and gray hairs are just some of the visible signs of aging. As a person ages, the body’s metabolism changes, the digestion process slows down, weakening muscles, and the height shortens. Thus, it is important to know what to do and how to handle these changes by not affecting our health.

Now, here are some tips you must do in order to age well and healthy:

  • Improved eating habit – As stated above, aging affects the digestion and metabolism of a person by slowing it down, thus, your choice of food plays a critical role. Always opt for the healthier ones as you need more nutrition. Being prone to constipation, always eat more fruits like papaya, watermelon, and prunes. For slowed digestion, eat foods high in fiber like vegetables and fruits. You can also include calcium by eating it from foods like milk, cheese, yogurt, peanut butter, broccoli, beans, dilis, sardines and tuna. Aging also causes decrease in your ability to taste and smell foods. And for this case, try to make your meal look appealing. Choose healthier fish and chicken instead of pork and beef.
  • Drink water – Accordingly, older adults are prone to dehydration and would often likely to suffer heat stroke. Thus, an older person needs to drink more water even if he’s still not thirsty. Ask your doctor about the right amount as he will based it on your condition.
  • Physical activities – Because muscles get weaken as we age, physical movement and exercises is necessary. This is to maintain muscle strength, balance, and mental alertness and decreases risks of osteoporosis and chronic aches and pains. Regarding this matter, also ask your doctor and get a medical clearance first. Ideally, older adults need to spend 30 minutes every day to get active and one best way is walking daily, this is best for everyone. Cooking and cleaning are also great activities to keep you moving. However, avoid doing high-impact exercises.
  • Sharp memory and brain – The brain function also declines as we all age and forgetfulness is among the most common condition. To promote your cognitive health, you must still engage in doing challenges and projects, solve crossword puzzles, play chess, trying out new things such as new recipes, studying, and among other activities that exercise the mind.
  • Regular check ups – This is an essential factor to keep oneself healthy. We are all aware that aging is the time where some illnesses and diseases starting to appear. Arthritis, heart disease, vision problems, and hearing issues are most common to a lot of older people.
