EARTHQUAKE HANGOVER – Doc Willie Ong discusses what are the right things to do if you are feeling dizzy after a strong shaking or tremor.

Just this week, Cotaboto in Philippines was hit with two strong quakes dating October 29 and October 31. The incident have caused some establishments to collapse and worst, there were reported deaths.

Earthquake is an intense shaking of Earth’s surface caused by movements in Earth’s outermost layer. There are several factors and reasons why quakes happen. And no one has yet found the way to determine if an earthquake is about to happen. It just happens unexpectedly and oftentimes, comes with aftershocks.

With all the shaking, surely, not one person just experiences of getting dizzy right after. This condition is called Eathquake hangover which people feel a sense of motion caused by a case of balance impairment or a form of earthquake phobia.

Here are some of the things we need to know about earthquake hangover:

  • This is the feeling of dizziness right after a tectonic shaking where 30% percent of people are experiencing.
  • Anxiety and nervousness can cause this feeling despite the fact that the shaking has already ended. One also gets sweaty. The dizziness will eventually go away by the next day.
  • Another term used is “Earthquake drunk” which happens when a person is either writing or lying on bed when the tremor happened.
  • The other reason to this is called “Neurological Mismatch” where our balance gets distracted reason why we tend to fall down.

What to do if you are experiencing this?

  1. Relax
  2. Drink warm water
  3. Look at far distance
