The most common skin problem of many of us is acne. Not only it is disturbing but it is also very bothersome because it destroys the aesthetics of your whole face and facade. However, this acne condition can get severe growing deep into the skin and this is called acne conglobata.

This is a very severe and fairly rare form of inflammatory acne. It causes acne cysts and nodules to which breakouts can lead to draining of bad-smelling pus. They are spread in your skin’s surface and these breakouts get interconnected to each other resulting in deep wounds.

This type of severe acne condition typically starts as simple acne or acne vulgaris that just gets worse over time, gradually. Thus, there’s no absolute answer as to what causes this and why they develop.

As for treatment and management, isotretinoin 0.5-1 mg/kg for 4-6 months is suggested by the experts. Also seen beneficial is the use of systemic steroids, such as prednisone 1 mg/kg/d for 2-4 weeks simultaneously.

You may also have oral alternatives oral tetracycline, minocycline, or doxycycline. However, oral tetracycline antibiotics should never be taken with oral isotretinoin as the risk of pseudotumor cerebri increases.
